Dermot O'Morchoe himself has been involved in the Irish mushroom industry for over 28 years. Initially as manager of his own farm and subsequently working for Sylvan, as a technical advisor to Agaricus growers for 14 years.
Through Premier Picking, Dermot works as an independent consultant, specialising in Farm Business Management and Picker Training for a large number of customers, visiting countries such as Ireland, UK, France, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia, Iran, Oman, South Africa, USA, Australia and New Zealand.
Recently he has worked as part of a Government training scheme, offering onsite Management and Picker training to farms throughout Ireland and the UK.
Having come from a "growing" background, all Dermot’s training is strictly hands-on in nature, where he uses his ability to teach and communicate with people to achieve the best results. Recently Dermot is using his training in “Lean” manufacturing and “Six Sigma” management approaches to bring the modern mushroom farm up to modern operational standards. He feels that it is this use of new thinking that will enable mushroom farms to rise to new levels of professionalism.
